Tree Planting in the Churchyard PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 04 November 2011 11:28

Can you help identify this event and any of the people shown in the photo? It is taken in the Church grounds looking towards the Maypole and is attended by a military gent. Many people have looked at it but none can recall the event. If you can help please email the editor or contact a Heritage Committee Member. Thanks

This old photo from the 1940's is of the men of "C" Company, Borden Home Guard on parade. I can name 2 of the members - front row centre is Roger Mills. Middle row 5th from left is George Skinner. A few other faces look familar, but I can't put a name to them. I am sure viewers will recognise friends and family members on parade here. Photo looks to have been taken by the Home Farm barn. Whitehead Dairies 1962-63 by Roger Martin
Whitehead Dairies 1962-63 by Roger Martin
A photograph of the milkman from whiteheads dairies that I worked for on the weekends and school holidays when I was a boy, the third milkman from the left is Norman Rossiter (foremen) the man in the middle,(sixth from the left) is Stan Whitehead (the owner) the fifth man down from the left I believe is Dave Spinks (who I worked with )and the eight from the left is Tom Friday (who my brother worked with).

This would have been taken about 1962-63,can anybody recognize the milkman from this picture?

I'm pretty sure the 9th from the left is my late father John Back, who I remember worked for whiteheads around that time.

Andrew Back Aug 2010.
