Borden Church East Window Sunday, 03 March 2013
Borden Church East Window It was 1872 when the Rev. George Musgrave, past vicar of Borden, had the East window constructed and installed. It also happens to be the date of his first wife’s death, Charlotte Emily (nee Oaks), and it is thought that the window was a memorial to her. Here are some representations of the East window from old postcards.               It is thought that the window was removed in the 1940's for safekeeping. It was first stored in the church then moved to...

Old Vicarage Wednesday, 27 July 2011
We live at 'NOREL' in the street, one of the bungalows on the site of the old vicarage, recently we had some building work done. During the course of excavating for a soak away we found the well that served this building. We attach some photographs of this, also some of initials and date carved into bricks of the boundary wall adjoining the farmhouse. I have found that the T F was Thomas Frank 'vicar' at that date but have been unable to find the others, any ideas anyone? Linda and John Emery

I can remember going to Sunday School at the Methodist Church in Oad Street back in the 1950s. My brother and had to walk all the way from Munsgore farm where George Whitehead had his dairy. And at Christmas we went out carol singing even when it was snowing. My father worked for Whitehead dairy untill it was sold...

Harmans Corner Tuesday, 13 October 2009
Harmans Corner. The House named Harmans Corner is situated at the corner of Borden Lane and The Street. Continuous habitation is documented from 1650 but there is evidence that there was a building there before that date. For much of this time the house was occupied by the Tidy family, including Alfred Tidy who served as Churchwarden. Indeed a W Tidy signed the wallpaper in the kitchen in July 1848! The records of 1651 show that the property had five hearths. The hearth in the present dining...

The Maypole Inn Sunday, 11 October 2009
THE MAYPOLE This Inn known by the name and sign the Maypole was built in the first year of George II, in 1727. When first built the property was two farm dwellings, belonging then, to the estate of one Francis Grosvenor esq. of Sittingbourne, who possessed the land upon which they were built, and commissioned the erection of them as part of a terrace, to house farm workers, of his estate. In 1733, six years after their founding, one Nathaniel Tidye, grazier, and his family resided in one...

Wises House Thursday, 17 September 2009
Wises House was built in 1827 as the Wises family became more prosperous and extended the original building (now Wises Cottage). It is a regency period building on three floors and retains many of the original features.  We are very aware that we are just temporary keepers of the house and there have many lucky people who have lived here.  Growing up 1930-50... We had a visit from a man who grew up in the house during 1930-50s. He told us many stories about the house which I wish I had made...
