Born - Borden in 1880

Parents - James and Jane Honeysett, living at Cryalls Cottage according to the 1891 census with his father listed as a groom/domestic servant at the time.

1901 census - Age 10 with the family still living at Cryalls Cottage.

1911 census - Age 20 and sigle working as a farm hand at Cryalls Farm.

Enlisted - Sittingbourne

Regiment - 1st Battalion Queens Own Royal West Kent. He joined up at the same time as his younger brother as Regimental Numbers only one different.

Regimental Number - G/4877

 

Killed in Action on 26th October 1917.

 

At the time of his death James and Jane Honeysett were living at Yew Tree House, Oad Street.

Cemetery - No known grave. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing.


Sidney John Bentley

Parents - John and Mary Bentley

1901 census - Aged 5 living at Dental Terrace, Key Street. Father was an agricultural labourer.

1911 census - Aged 15 living at 2 Westlands, London Road Sittingbourne. He was employed as a clerk in the butchery department at the Co-op.

Regiment - 40th Battery attached to 25th Brigade Royal Horse Artillery

Regimental number - 915813

 

Died of Wounds on 11th April 1918 aged 22.

 

Cemetery - Buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery, Sangatte.

Osbourne Ethelbert Winch

Born - Sittingbourne in 1889

Parents - Ernest and Ann Winch

1901 census - Aged 12 and living with his parents at Dental Terrace on the London Road, Sittingbourne.

1911 census - Age 22, boarder at Hounslow Middlesex. Employed as a printer (lino).

Enlisted - Herne, Kent.

Regiment - 1st Battalion East Kent Regiment. Formerly served in the Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles.

Regimental Number - G/13289

 

Died of wounds on 30th April 1917, age 28.

 

Husband of Elsie Agnes Winch of 25 Liverpool Street, Dover. He had been married for one year. Employed as a printer for the East Kent Gazette for 7 years. Parents still living at Dental Terrace on London Road, Sittingbourne.

Royal Navy Serving on HMS Fiji when the ship was torpedoed.

 

Died at Sea on 23rd May 1941, age 37

Horace Arthur Sellen

Born - Sittingbourne in 1892

Parents - Henry and Lottie Sellen

1901 census - Age 9. Father employed as a shopkeeper, oyster and shellfish dealer. Resident at 25 Berry Street, Sittingbourne.

1911 - Age 19, single and working as a clerk -coal factory. Living at 25 Berry Street, Sittingbourne. He attended the local village school and had been part of the church choir.

Regiment - Machine-gun Corps; attached 56th Battalion, formerly serving in the Royal East Surrey Regiment.

Regimental Number - 123751

 

Died of wounds on 31st March 1918. Aged 26.

 

Cemetery - Buried in Borden Churchyard.

At the time of his death his parents were living at 'Bankside' Chestnut Street, Borden.


Herbert Mark Tyman

Born - Milton Regis in 1897

Parents - Mark and Elizabeth Tyman

1901 census - Aged 4 living with his parents at 57 Ckalkwell Road, Sittingbourne. Father working as a blacksmith.

1911 census - Aged 14 working as a domestic gardener. Living at 9 Aspley Villa in Milton Regis.

Regiment - 8th Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment. Formerly serving with the

Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles.

Regimental Number - G/18520

 

Killed in action on 16th October 1918, age 21.

At this time was resident at 66 Union Street, Milton Regis.

He is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artoic Memorial to the Missing.

father was a grocer, originally from Sudbury in Suffolk.

1901 census - Aged 13 and now living at 'The Street'

1911 census - Aged 23 and single, occupation listed as stock dealer/grazer.

Regiment - 10th Battalion Royal East Kent Regiment (Buffs) – formerly serving with the 1/1st East Kent Yeomanry

Died of Wounds on 21st October 1918 aged 29.

He is commemorated on a special memorial plaque at Lapugnoy Military

Cemetery.

Serving aboard HMS Esk, a E class destroyer. Penant number (H 27).

Parents - Edwin and Emma Apps living at Key Street, Borden. His father's occupation

being a lime burner. There were lime pits in School Lane, Borden

1901 census - Age 15 working as a painter's apprentice

1911 census - Age 25 single, occupation listed as lime burner. Living with parents at Key Street.

Regiment - 7th Battalion East Kent Regiment (Buffs) – formerly with the Royal East

Kent Mounted Rifles

Regimental Number - G/15735

 

Killed in action on 2nd May 1917 aged 32.

He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial to the Missing.

Parents - Lawrence and Charlotte Steers

1911 census - Boarder living at 3 Laburnum Place – Milton Regis. Married 13 years with two daughters, Emily age 12 and Grace age 8. Employed as a mason's

labourer.

East Kent Regiment during the Boer War.

Accidentally killed on 5th April 1917 at Bromley, age 51.

Born - Borden in 1888

1891 census - Age 3 and living with his parents at 13 Mill Lane, Borden. Father employed as a brick maker.

1911 census - Age 24, single being resident at 13 Borden Lane. Working as a labourer in paper mill.

Regiment - 2nd Battalion Grenadier Guards. Three years service before the war.

Regimental Number - 12024

 

Killed in action on 1st December 1917 age 29.

 

Cemetery - No known grave.

He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial to the Missing – Louverval, in France.


George Daniel Mills

He was born in Borden in 1886, son of Thomas William and Annie Maria Mills.  

1901 census age 14 living with his mother and siblings (father having died) at London Road, Borden.

1911 census living at Bannister Hill, Borden with his wife Eliza and daughter Grace.  

Another daughter, Emily was born in 1914 and he worked as a gardener at Posiers, Borden Lane. He was also a bellringer at Borden church.

Born - Bapchild in 1896

Parents - Frederick and Ellen Jordan. His father was born in Bobbing.

1901 census - Age 4, living with his parents at Scocles Cottages in Minster, Sheppy.

1911 census - Age 14 and listed as a farm worker. The family resident at Funton farm, Iwade.

Killed in action on 24th July 1917 aged 21.

At this time his parents were living at Chestnut Street farm, Borden.

1901 census - Age 8 and resident at 24 Borden Lane. His father being employed as a corn miller.

1911 census - Age 18 and single, working as a paper mill hand. Now resident at 30

Parents - Archibald and Louisa Fuggle

1901 census - Age 6; living with his parents in Tunstall, where his father was employed as a coachman (domestic).

1911 census - Father now publican of the 'Maypole'. Member of the village school, a fine athlete also a member of Borden Cricket Club.

 

Gunner Charles Wilfred Fuggle

Enlisted - London

Regiment - D Battery, 242nd Brigade. Royal Field Artillery. Joined the Army in 1915, spent a period of time at home during 1917 suffering from shellshock and

trench foot.

Regimental Number - L/22957

 

Died of wounds on 4th March 1918, age 23.

1901 census - Age 6 living with his family at 24 Borden Lane. His father is recorded

working as a corn miller.

Died of Wounds on 29th October 1917

 

Cemetery - Buried at Potijze Chateau Lawn Cemetery. His widowed mother still lived at 30 Borden Lane.

1901 census - Aged 17 working as a grocer's assistant. Living with his parents at Forstal Road, Aylesford.

1909 - Married Winifred Alice Field at East Malling.

1911 census - Age 27, married with a 3 month old son. Working as a grocer's assistant. Residence being 3 Dental Terrace, Key Street.
